They arrived at the same minute into the world – in identical rooms only a wall apart. The only difference was the second that they arrived in. In those seconds the only thing in the world that changed was the beat of the church bells. He arrived on the last beat and thought it was his Mother’s heart. She arrived on the first beat, and though she may’ve thought it was her Mother’s heart at first, by the final beat she knew it was the heart of the world.
On the first beat of the church bell, she came into the world. On the 2nd beat, she felt her mother’s heart sounding through the new world. On the 3rd she knew it wasn’t her mother’s, but the church’s beating. On the 4th beat of the church bell, he came into the new world. On the 5th beat, he felt his mother’s heart sounding through the new world. There was no 6th beat, only the sun that reflected light from the bronze bells and his mother’s eyes onto their children.
